Ascot Guidelines
Royal Ascot have updated their dress code guidelines for 2012 and have specified;
"In the Royal Enclosure, "Hats should be worn; a headpiece which has a base of 4 inches (10cm) or more in diameter is acceptable as an alternative to a hat." As a further note, they have stated fascinators are not permitted in the Royal Enclosure; nor are headpieces with a base less than 4" (10cms) in diameter."
So to make things a little clearer, we have identified on our website which of our headpieces are Ascot Royal Enclosure friendly (according to their strict guidelines for the measurement of the base). However, although meeting the criteria, some of the headpieces are more petite in their look and ladies may wish to consider a more substantial option if attending the Royal Enclosure.
"In the Grandstand, "A hat, headpiece or fascinator should be worn at all times."
Although, Royal Ascot consider they have clarified the dress code, there is still confusion as to the distinction between a fascinator and a headpiece. We consider the term fascinator to be a general description for headwear which is not a hat (with a crown and brim) and which can vary considerably in size, look and materials used. However, this is only one component of the dress code and ladies should refer to Royal Ascot to ensure their outfit meets all of the criteria.
